Many ways to give to CRIC

CRIC’s mission is to promote integration, economic self-sufficiency, and positive connections among refugees, immigrants, and the wider community through two-way education, improved access to existing services, and development of new services.

We’ll soon be wrapping up a giant year in the history of CRIC! In this season of gratitude, we struggle to convey to our donors the exact impact of their donations. The impact is always so much more than the numbers that come in. For every dollar in the mail or through our PayPal account, and for every Ziploc baggie of change from a young person’s bake sale, there are so many lives affected that we can’t even count them.

The truth is this: we would not exist as an organization if it weren’t for the generosity of local donors. We receive no federal or state funding for the work we do.

Up until a year ago, this is what the CRIC office looked like….

Up until a year ago, this is what the CRIC office looked like….

Some of you may be familiar with the elements of this photo: me (Nelda, one of CRIC’s founding members) with my backpack and a homemade cart that has the CRIC printer strapped to it. This was the CRIC office for the first three years of our existence, but because of local donors, congregations, and other groups, we came to a point where we realized that there were people who believed in us and our abilities to assist the refugee, asylee, and immigrant families and individuals living in Cache Valley.

As 2018 approaches its end, CRIC has an office where our printer can stay put. We have two part-time employees and one full-time AmeriCorps VISTA member who are helping us grow in ways we couldn’t have guessed. Our capacity to achieve our mission has been expanded at least a hundredfold.

There is much more that we want to do. If you follow us on Facebook or Instagram this month, you’ll see updates on each of our projects and the growth we’ve enjoyed thanks to donors. We hope for your support during this season. Here are 9 ways you can support local refugees and immigrants and the work of CRIC.

No. 1: #GivingTuesday & #LoveUTGiveTues

Tuesday, November 27 has been designated Giving Tuesday by the nonprofit world. After you have saved so much money by shopping Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday deals, you can donate to your favorite nonprofit. We’re focusing our gaze on our Facebook fundraiser that day, as PayPal will match every dollar that’s donated, until their $7 million donation is spent. Our Facebook fundraiser will launch that morning at 6am. There are no fees associated with Facebook fundraisers, so your complete donation (doubled by PayPal!) will come to us.

No. 2: Vote for our #MyGivingStory and our chance to win $10,000

MyGivingStory hosts a story contest each year for people who want to explain why they give to their communities. The stories with the most votes are send on to a panel of judges who will award cash prizes to the nonprofits featured in the winning stories. We would appreciate your votes for the story submitted on CRIC’s behalf! You can vote once per day until December 7. Click here to vote: https://goo.gl/qdLy93

No. 3: Donations in-person and through the trusty mail

Don’t do online fundraisers? Our mailing address is 429 S Main, Suite 1, Logan, UT 84321. Our staff members would also love to greet you and personally thank you for your donation, but their schedules are often all over the place! If you’d like to schedule a time to stop by, email melissa@cacherefugees.org or call 435-915-6689 in advance of your visit.

No. 4: PayPal

Just a couple of pages over you’ll find a link to our PayPal account. It’s about as easy to donate this way as you can get.

No. 5: Amazon wishlist

There are a few new items that would benefit the lives of the families with whom we work, from basic needs such as diapers to tech needs such as a color printer for our drivers’ license study materials. Contribute to these items by clicking here: Amazon wishlist.

No. 6: Select us as your Amazon Smile charity

Haven’t yet chosen a charity to receive 0.5% of your Amazon purchases through Amazon Smile? Here are instructions on how to set it up: Amazon Smile instructions.

No. 7: Connect your Smith’s Rewards card to CRIC

Smith’s Inspiring Donations program sends 0.5% of your Smith’s purchases to a nonprofit of your choice. You get to support CRIC while still getting the same prices, discounts, and fuel points that you would if your card weren’t connected! Here’s how you can connect your card to us: Smith’s Inspiring Donations set up.

No. 8: Host a fundraiser for CRIC

Do you have connections to a group that would like to host a benefit concert, service auction, or other fundraising event for us? We can supply you with information about the refugee resettlement process and refugees living in Cache Valley that could help your event. Contact info@cacherefugees.org to schedule a time to talk to our staff about your ideas.

No. 9: Payroll donations for USU employees

USU employees can donate by selecting CRIC from the dropdown found at charity.usu.edu. In the first “Select the Agency” box, choose United Way of Cache Valley. When a new box pops up to specify which charity you want, scroll down the list until you find CRIC. You can choose a one-time or a monthly donation. This is after-tax giving.
